Chuk Palu Rug![]() Chuk Palu Rugs presents hand-made contemporary rugs from Afghanistan. The carpets are designed by the Afghan artist Rahim Walizada who won a prize at the Venice Biennale in 2005 where his carpets competed against artists of all genres.
Rahim Walizada’s designs are a mixture of local, ancient, nomadic techniques and traditions and modern designs. The carpets are all made of hand spun wool from Afghanistan’s Ghazni highlands, which gives them a natural robust texture like that of antique rugs. They are dyed with natural colours and hand weaved by Afghan women throughout Afghanistan. Skilled in using fine texture and silken sheen of the wool and adept at finding colour variations in the yarn, the weavers infuse the design with a unique touch creating timeless pieces. Rahim Walizada’s modern designs are with their sophisticated and subtle style new and refreshing in the carpet industry. His work is inspired by the many achievements of twentieth-century painting and design, from the geometry of Picasso and Mondrian to the evocative simplicity and chromatic sensitivity of Rothko. Location: 24-A, Jumeirah Beach Road. Opposite Mercato Mall and next to NBD Bank. Dubai, UAE. www.chukpalurugs.com |
